Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most common questions about using Naviname.
How can I tell whether a name is common?
Use the year and gender filters, then search the name you are considering. The result set is meant to help you compare a favorite against nearby alternatives and see where that name sits relative to more common and less common options.
Are the results exact rankings?
No. The map is a discovery tool. It is designed to surface related names, alternate spellings, and nearby options. Similarity and placement are approximate and can change as the data or ranking logic changes.
Do I need an account?
No account is required to search public baby names. If you want to save favorites and ratings, you can sign in with Google.
Where does the data come from?
The site uses stored datasets and name-vector ranking to power search, filters, and related-name discovery. Public search is centered on the baby-name dataset and the related-name signals built around it.
