Naviname methodology
A plain-language explanation of what Naviname measures and what its results do and do not mean.
What the map measures
Naviname is a discovery tool, not a definitive ranking engine. It uses stored datasets and similarity methods to place names that appear related closer together than names that appear unrelated.
What the results are good for
- spotting alternate spellings and naming families;
- comparing a favorite against nearby options; and
- finding names you may not have thought to search directly.
What the results are not
The map is not a substitute for official legal records, not a guarantee that two names are linguistically equivalent, and not a promise that every possible variant will appear. Datasets, weighting, and ranking logic can change over time.
